Good News: The Water Well Repair Project for Harris County MUD No. 46 has been completed ahead of schedule!

The Board of Directors would like to thank our neighbors at Harris County MUD No. 109 for graciously extending the use of the emergency interconnect during this time.

The District will be receiving water through its own water well effective Tuesday, 25 October 2022. Please note that because the direction of water flow will change after the interconnect with Harris County MUD No. 109 is terminated, some sediment caused from the water mains may appear in your tap water. Because it is necessary to flush the end lines of the water mains, it is recommended that you allow your water to run for a few minutes until it is clear in color. There is no need to boil the water before use.

As you know, the District’s Water Well is under repair, and the District is currently receiving water from our neighbor, Harris County MUD 109.

The District’s Operator and Engineer are working diligently on getting water restored to our District. In the meantime, along with Harris County MUD 109, we need to continue to conserve water.

Until further notice please restrict all non-essential water usage, including watering of lawns, car washing, and power-washing of driveways, etc. The Harris County MUD 46 Board of Directors is appreciative of your understanding and compliance and will, of course, will update you as soon as the repairs are made.

The District has implemented an email and text alert system for the residents of Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 46. This system is designed to keep you informed of issues related to the District in a quick and timely manner. You may receive messages in either email or text alert format, or both, related to the water service in the District, drainage and sewer related topics, and other news that is relevant to the District.

The email alerts that you may receive will contain the majority of the relevant information and may occasionally direct you back to the District’s website for more details.

Text message notifications will contain a short amount of information with a link back to the District’s website where the remainder of the information can be viewed.

7. After logging into EyeOnWater, set a leak alert in the upper left corner (to­date over 1100 leaks found by system saving both water and money). A good number to use is 5 gallon per hour intermittent (not continuous) leak over a 24-hour period. Put in your email and press the”+” symbol to add it.

As of August 9, 2022, Harris County MUD 46 has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of water for the District and has provided the TCEQ with laboratory results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use. Please note that the District remains on an Interconnect with a neighboring MUD and is requesting that all residents continue to conserve water as much as possible.

Tips for After a Water Boil Water Notice is Lifted: Fundamentally, what you will be doing after any drinking water boil water notice is flushing your plumbing system and cleaning or replacing anything that has come into contact with water.

1. First flush hot water faucets for fifteen minutes, and cold-water faucets for five minutes or until it feels cold.
2. Flush your refrigerator filter for a least a quart of water or change the filter.
3. Ice cubes from refrigerators: automatic ice dispensers should be emptied of ice made during the boil order and run through a 24-hour cycle, discarding the ice to assure purging of the icemaker water supply line.
4. Run your dishwasher empty for a full cycle.
5. Discard any water used in humidifiers, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), oral, medical or health care devices, and rinse the device with clean water.
6. Clean, then flush every toilet with a quick flush.
7. Change all water filters currently in use.
8. Clean and sanitize all pet bowls.

• For the next 24-hours, please do not drink your tap water. To ensure your tap water is safe for drinking, bring it to a rolling boil for at least one minute. LET COOL BEFORE DRINKING.
• After boiling your water, store it in the refrigerator for drinking.
• If you have a water filter, don’t assume that you don’t need to boil your drinking water. Most common water filters are incapable of removing microorganisms.
• Don’t let your pets drink your contaminated water; give them clean, cooled boiled water.
• If using water to treat minor injuries, boil the water and wait for it to cool first.
• Be careful not to swallow shower or bath water.
• Use bottled or cooled boiled water for everything in your household, including doing your teeth, making ice, washing salad items, and bathing.
• Cook and prepare food using boiled and cooled water.
• Disinfect food contact surfaces and dishes with tap water containing a teaspoon of bleach per gallon.
• Throw away any foods, beverages or ice cubes made with your contaminated drinking water.

Due to an electrical failure associated with construction at the District’s Water Plant, a portion of Harris County MUD 46 residents may be experiencing low water pressure or a temporary loss of water.

As a result of the temporary loss in water pressure, please restrict any heavy water use or irrigation activities until further notice.

Please be aware that repairs are being made as quickly as possible, and that water should be restored within the next couple of hours. We will update the District’s website again once the repairs are completed.

In order to conserve water during current drought conditions, the City of Houston has implemented Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan.  During this stage, the Harris County MUD No. 46 Board of Directors is requesting that all residents of the District take the following voluntary measures:

• Check for and repair all leaks, dripping faucets, and running toilets.
• Check sprinkler heads to make sure that water is not spraying into the street or directly into a storm drain.
• Utilize water conservation measures such as displacement bags, low-flow shower heads, and leak detection tablets.
• Limit irrigation to no more than two (2) days per week, between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
